The Little Yellow Canary

"I want a yellow canary, daddy" a child version of me said more than a decade ago. I had made a PowerPoint with all my research, and I got the good grades and yet I never got my little singing canary as a little girl. And I am glad I didn't...... why?
I have 2 gorgeous little birds now and part of me is so glad my father decided not to let a child, whose research consisted of Wikipedia and kid's info sites, have a canary. I simply wouldn't have been mature enough to provide them with better than minimum care.
I never would have realized that such tiny birds had such intelligence, and their ability to learn quickly is highly impressive. They know where home is, they always survey and find their food, they build nests, they explore, forage, play, and they have clear personalities.
Peachfuzz is my perfect little yellow canary, she's sweet and inquisitive. Incredibly brave and smart. Meatball is my little singer, he's curious, intelligent and protective. They are both just lovely, beautiful and completely different to each other
So please don't buy a canary because they're "easy" or "cheap" or "small". Don't buy them as presents for your kids or on a whim. Buy one because you want to see their full potential and provide them with the best possible care you can
